The event was organised by comunity organisation Trust Thamesmead and it offered gymnastic displays by Crossway Gym and street dance by Myztikal as well as workshops in Zumba and street dance with Theatre Street Performing Arts.

The trust’s community development officer Janice Jones said: “The level of engagement this event allowed us to undertake was outstanding. Some residents didn’t even know the park existed!”

Active Kids provided an assault course for children, as well as a range of Olympic sports, and there were also arts and crafts, t-shirt painting and the opportunity to make their own Olympic torches on Saturday.

On top of that, everyone who attended was entered into a prize draw to win tickets to see Brazil v France in the women’s basketball in the newly-built Basketball Arena.

Thamesmead resident Tania Teesand said: “Today’s event was brilliant. It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed the band and playing badminton.”
