Thamesmead murder reconstruction to be held

A reconstruction will be held tomorrow four weeks to the day since a murdered Thamesmead pensioner was last seen alive as police continue to look for witnesses.

Pamela Wheeler, 76, was found dead in her Newacres Road home on July 22 with her wrists and ankles tied but police believe she was attacked between the evening of July 19 and the following morning.

Officers have handed out more than 1,500 leaflets in the area and are keen to talk to a woman in her 50s seen talking to Mrs Wheeler at around 1.15pm on July 19 walking towards Tesco’s in Battery Road.

Investigating officer Det Ch Insp Graeme Gwyn said: “It is four weeks since Pam was last seen alive. Our work to find those responsible continues.

“She suffered a horrific death in her home. I urge anyone with information to make contact with us.”

A neighbour of Mrs Wheeler, who did not want to be named, added: “This has been a great shock to all of us.

“I cannot believe that someone could commit a cold-blooded murder like this. Whoever did this has to be caught so no-one has to suffer like Pam did again.”

An inquest was opened and adjourned at Southwark Coroner’s Court on Tuesday of last week.
