Bright start will give way to threats of surface water flooding. But weekend looks brighter

Forecasters are warning of heavy showers across the south east later today leading to difficult driving conditions and even the risk of some flooding.

A yellow rain warning came into force from 9am on Friday and lasts until 4pm.

That means there is a medium likelihood or low impacts due to the weather.

Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop across the south east - with Kent seeing some of the heaviest.

There is the potential for some of the showers, which could be slow moving, to give 10-20 mm in an hour and 20-30 mm in two to three hours.

This could lead to surface water flooding, difficult driving conditions and disruption to transport. Showers will gradually die away late afternoon.

A spokesman for Kent County Council said: “The showers are expected to be fairly hit and miss today and as with any showery situation some places will see the heavy showers while many places will remain dry.”

Tomorrow is expected to be a dry day with sunny spells. Further rain is expected on Saturday night, gradually clearing on Sunday morning with fine conditions following from the west.
