Strong winds could impact driving conditions

The arrival of Storm Brian is expected to bring strong winds to the county, sparking a weather warning for conditions on Saturday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, meaning there is a medium likelihood of low impacts.

Kent County Council’s transport department is advising: “Strong winds tomorrow could lead to difficult driving conditions, damaged or fallen trees and the potential for some isolated power outages.

“There could also be some isolated flooding along southern costs.”

A deep area of low pressure, now named as Storm Brian by the Irish Met Service, will move northeast across Ireland and northern parts of the UK tonight and tomorrow bringing a spell of very windy weather across southern England accompanied by rain or showers at times.

The southerly wind will increase tonight as the low pressure starts to move east. During tomorrow morning the wind will increase further and turn south-westerly with gusts of 45-55 mph quite widely across southern England and as much as 60-70 mph near exposed coasts.

The strongest winds are currently expected from late-morning through to early evening.

Winds are expected to ease by Sunday but weather may remain unsettled.
