Welling United’s net will be in safe hands next season as goalkeeper Sam Mott and Jamie Turner have signed new contracts.

Mott enjoyed a memorable debut campaign after joining from Thamesmead United last summer as the Wings enjoyed the joint-best defensive record in the Conference South last season.

Turner proved an able deputy and made eight appearances for the title-winning team.

Manager Jamie Day said: “I’m delighted that Sam has signed a new deal for the coming season.

“He had an excellent first season with the club, which was also noted by his call-up to the England C squad in early February.

“Jamie is someone I know well and he proved his worth whenever he was called upon last season. They get on well together and I know they will push each other on to improve even further in the next 12 months.”

It continued a good week for Day, following hot on the heels of top scorer Ross Lafayette signing a new deal and double success in the Blue Square Bet South end of season awards.

He was named manager of the year and was also included in team of the year along with four of his team mates. Also honoured were defenders Fraser Franks, Ben Martin and Anthony Acheampong and wing-back Loui Fazakerley.
