The mile run is to raise money for Sport Relief

A Bexley mother is set to run a mile next month in Danson Park - whilst bouncing a ping pong ball.

Mum of one Annie Wong is one of a 10-person team taking on the Sport Relief Mile at Danson Park on March 20.

The team is made up of staff from Sainsbury’s in Broadway Shopping Centre, and they’ll beat their fundraising from last year when they raised nearly £4,000.

Targetting £5,500, staff will be taking part in a range of activities building up to the Danson Mile.

Mrs Wong said she took up the additional challenge in honour of her late mother.

She said: “It seemed like a good thing to do at the time but it’s going to be quite difficult.

“It’s really all going to depend on the weather. If it’s windy on the day of the walk it’s going to be tricky to say the least. I’m going to bounce the ball on the bat for as long as I can without dropping it.

“I always wanted to play as well as my mother, she played for fun really, it was more of a hobby than anything professional but she was able to beat most of the people who challenged her to a match.

“Now I have my own table at home and I play when I have the time. I can beat my husband quite easily. He always says I save my best shots until last so he can’t return them. I actually have been known to let him win just to keep the peace.”

The Danson Mile takes place on March 20.
