Welling pensioner conned by bogus charity collector

A bogus charity collector took advantage of a Welling pensioner by selling her two raffle tickets, the results of which he said would be displayed in the Bexley Times.
Marie Rock, 76, was visited at her Lynmere Road home on Thursday of last week and bought two raffle tickets for a supposed Marie Curie Cancer Care prize draw.
Mrs Rock said: “It was such a small amount I didn’t think anything of it.
“In hindsight I should have made him show his ID and I feel a little bit betrayed.”
She described the man as between 50 and 60 and about 5ft6in tall.
A Bexley Police spokesman said: “People should not do business with charities at the door.
“If you want to donate to charity do it on the internet or over the phone. Only give money at the door if charity workers show their ID and licence.”
