An eco-development is set to breathe new life into an abandoned quarry by building 600 new homes.

Due to launch to the public in 2017, The Quarry development in Erith will also provide a three form entry primary school, promising to bring at least 630 new school places to the town.

As part of the plans, solar panels on site are expected to power around 20 per cent of the homes’ energy use.

Andrew Jay is group managing director at The Anderson Group, one of the companies behind the development.

He said: “Erith Quarry was integral to the local community for nearly two centuries but since quarrying ended in the 1960s it has lain neglected and become overgrown.

“We’re really excited to be working with L&Q to reimagine this vital piece of land at the heart of Erith into a sustainable neighbourhood which will deliver much needed new homes, green community spaces and a landmark primary school.”
