A Sidcup student earned a place on a prestigious Young Journalists’ Acacdemy summer school.

Charles Ballard, 17, goes to Christ the King: St Mary’s Sixth Form College in Chislehurst Road and is one of 27 lucky recipients from more than 200 applicants.

The week-long experience starts on Saturday (August 18) and runs until the following Saturday.

Charles said: “I was overjoyed when I found out my application was successful.

“I believe this experience will prove invaluable to me when I enter the highly competitive field of journalism and I will gain skills that will help me form my career.”

The week will included workshops in Canary Wharf, east London, and tours of newsrooms such as The Times and The Sun. The 27 youngsters will also received tutorials from industry professionals.
