Craig Bellamy is looking forward to representing Team GB

Liverpool star Craig Bellamy is excited by the prospect of playing in the London 2012 Olympics.

The Welshman was named as one of three over-age players in the squad along with Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs and Manchester City’s Micah Richards.

With no players represented from Scotland or Northern Ireland, Bellamy is not interested in the politics of the Team GB side and would rather focus on playing.

“I never heard anything about [the politics],” he said.

“I am just happy to be involved in this and to have this opportunity.

“I would have always loved to be involved in this and how could you not?

“I have not heard anything elsewhere. I am not about politics, I am just here to play football.

“I love playing football and my family really wanted me to do this so I am just looking forward to it.”
