Perri Shakes-Drayton signalled her intentions for the London Olympics with her fastest 400m hurdles time ever at the Aviva London Grand Prix.

Poplar’s Shakes-Drayton, 23, crossed the finish line at Crystal Palace in 53.77secs, making her the second-fastest British woman ever, behind only Olympic champion Sally Gunnell.

“I’m very happy,” said Shakes-Drayton, who is coached by Chris Zah.

“I wanted a season’s best so I know I’m doing the right thing with my coach.

“Roll on the Olympics.”
