GQ Awards honour Bradley Wiggins, Robbie Williams, Damian Lewis and more

Olympians and Paralympians including Bradley Wiggins, Mo Farah and Jody Cundy were among the people honoured at the GQ Men of the Year Awards.

Run by the men’s magazine, the awards at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden saw the sports stars accept the Team award from Lord Seb Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

Sir Chris Coy, who was also among those accepting the award, said: “It’s been a year to remember, thank you very much.”

Earlier in the night, cyclist Wiggins accepted the Lifetime Achievement award from Liam Gallagher.

The Olympic theme continued with the designer of the cauldron Thomas Heatherwick being given the Cultural Icon award by opening ceremony supremo Danny Boyle.

Heatherwick joked that his original commission had been not to put any “moving parts” in the cauldron. He said: “We then realised we had the most moving parts in the history of Olympic cauldrons, we had about 1,000 of them.”

Double gold winner Farah, whose wife has just had twins, also presented Robbie Williams with an Icon award at the event last night - and both men then posed doing the now famous ‘Mobot’.

Other awards saw Homeland star Damian Lewis named TV Personality of the Year and Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen named Best Comedian.

London Mayor Boris Johnson was named Best Politician.

Gary Barlow was given the Outstanding Achievement award, while Michael Fassbender was named Actor of the Year.

U2 frontman Bono presented the Inspiration award to Sir Salman Rushdie, and Sir Tom Jones picked up the Legend award at the ceremony.

Grace Jones presented Sir Tom with his award - and a pair of knickers.

X Factor host Dermot O’Leary was named Most Stylish man at the event, hosted by Jimmy Carr and David Walliams, and given his award by new Bond girl Benerice Marlohe.

US film producer Harvey Weinstein gave the Editor’s Special award to James Corden, while Thor star Chris Hemsworth was presented with the International Breakthrough award by fellow Australian Kylie Minogue.

Other winners included Lana Del Rey named Best Woman, Tinie Tempah winning Solo Artist, and Newsroom creator Aaron Sorking winning Best Writer. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana took the Designers award, Wolfgang Puck the Chef accolade, John Slattery won International Man and Chris Corbin and Jeremy King were given the Entrepreneur award.
