The Lambeth Country Show takes place in Brockwell Park, Brixton, on Saturday and Sunday from 11am until 6pm and promises a unique mix of reggae, cider and flower competitions.

Hundreds of thousands are expected to visit the event over the two days, with headline acts Dreadzone and Anthony B.

A slightly more sedate vibe will be going on in the flower zone for the Lambeth Horticultural Society Flower Show, sheep shearing and village fete-style baking competitions.

Raggae maestro Anthony B, who will grace the mainstage on Sunday, said: “I haven’t played in Brixton before, but it’s beautiful.

“Well that was my first feeling when I heard about being part of this event. I feel wonderful – I’m honoured to be a part of it. It feels great and an honour to know Jamaica is being celebrated in Britain.”

Lambeth council, which organises the show, announced it was cancelled in February, but was forced to make an embarassing U-turn and reinstate the show after a campaign by local community website the Brixton Blog.

Cllr Sally Prentice, cabinet member for culture at Lambeth Council, said: “This year’s Lambeth Country Show will again offer top quality entertainment.

“The show really demonstrates Lambeth at its best and is the perfect showcase for the borough’s vibrancy and creativity, reflecting all that’s great about living in this part of south London.”
