Danson Festival visitors could have been forgiven for thinking they were in Glastonbury as wellies and umbrellas were the fashion accessories of the weekend in Bexley.

More than 30,000 people turned up for one of the biggest free festivals in the south-east of England and a soaking apart they weren’t disappointed.

The Hoosiers, who got to number one with their debut album The Trick To Life in 2007, brought the curtain down on the festival on Sunday with a rapturous performance.

But the rain did not dampen people’s spirits as they were treated to a range of musical and dance acts alongside a host of exhibitors and stalls to keep the punters entertained.

These included classic car displays, a sports zone giving kids the opportunity to take part in a range of activities ››› and a cultural marquee which aimed to promote diversity in Bexley.

To add to the community feel there were performances from the likes of Bexleyheath Stage School, Bird College in Sidcup and the Bexley School of Dance.

Festival-goers took to Twitter to share their experiences.

@Donna_Turner1 said: “Glad I had my wellies on at Danson Festival. It was pretty muddy.”

Charlton Athletic FC brought along the League One championship trophy to give fans the chance to get their hands on some silverware, which was enough for some to brave the conditions.

The event was a dress-rehearsal for the Olympic torch relay party, which comes to Danson Park on July 22 with hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks being the star attractions.
