The Hamswell Festival, in Bath - with the tagline ‘better not bigger’ - is in its eighth year, and for the first time looks set to sell out its 500-ticket capacity, this weekend.

The intimate three-day party sets some of the best emerging music and arts acts against a backdrop of locally sourced food, ale and cider – all nestled in the natural amphitheatre of Hamswell Farm.

Hamswell was begun by a group of university friends, including Jonny Wharton, from Muswell Hill, north London; Richard Tugwell from Iver, Buckinghamshire; Steve Boatman, from Hackney, east London; and Alex Horder, from Brixton, south London.

Jonny, 28, whose family live on Hamswell Farm, said: “It’s still run by a close-knit and dedicated team. Hamswell is staged for the love of festivals and a desire to share this love with the lucky few that manage to get their hands on the 500 tickets available.”

This year will see a fistful of eclectic and quality acts, playing everything from dubstep to acoustic.

They include Emerging Species, Gentle Mystics, DefDfires and Screaming Soul.

On top of that Concrete Disco, The Hempolics, The Drop, True and False (Ministry of Sound) and The Push, will shape the sonic landscape.

Maxi Jazz will headline Saturday evening.

Craft workshops, yoga sessions and circus acts from Airborne Circus will be among the other attractions.

The festival runs from midday on Friday (August 17) until 7pm on Sunday.

Some tickets are still available on the gate.
