A Plumstead rapper has reached the top spot in the UK music singles chart.

Tinie Tempah, 21, hit number one on Sunday with his single Written In The Stars. It is the second time the rapper has achieved a number one hit in the past six months after his single Passed Out topped the charts in March.

An old boy of St Paul’s Academy, Wickham Lane, Abbey Wood, Tempah, whose real name is Patrick Okogwu, has enjoyed a rapid rise to success from his humble south east London beginnings.

He told an interviewer earlier this year that he was inspired by the So Solid Crew, another south London group, when he was on the verge of his teenage years. Talking about his new song, he said: “Written In The Stars is a real passionate track about the sort of struggle that I’ve had to face.”
