Council urges people to check after law change
Bexley council is urging people to make sure they are registered to vote.
A change in the law last year means every individual is now responsible for registering themselves, instead of the head of the household filling in a form for everyone.
You can register online at www.gov.uk/registertovote.
The council’s chief executive and returning officer, Will Tuckley, said: “Registering to vote gives you an influence on issues ranging from the local to the global.
“It’s easy to register and can be done in minutes. If you aren’t registered, you won’t have a say on who represents you. You may also have difficulty getting credit.”
Tomorrow is National Voter Registration Day, and there will be a series of roadshows around the borough over the next two months, where you will be able to check if you are registered and register if you are not.
Or you can call the council’s electoral services team on 020 8303 7777 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
