KENT Academy batsman Daniel Bell-Drummond is the latest recipient of the John Aitken Gray Trophy, having been named ‘Academy Scholar of the Year’.

The club welcomed Myrna Gray back to the St Lawrence Ground who, in memory of her late husband, John Aitken Gray, set up a scholarship of £500 per year for 10 years for the ‘best Academy Scholar’.

Bell-Drummond was honoured for his fine performances this year and received his trophy during the tea interval.

Academy director Phil Relf said: “Daniel has enjoyed a fine season. He has represented England U19 and made an unbeaten 88 to help defeat the Sri Lankans in the second Test match.

“He has been involved with the club since 2002, when he played for our U10 team and has worked very hard at his game over the last three years while at Millfield School.

“Daniel has played several games for our second XI this summer and made an excellent unbeaten 100 against Northants recently. He thoroughly deserves this award.”
