TWO new schools in a project worth £100 million moved a step closer with the awarding of a contract.

Construction firm Balfour Beatty has been chosen to deliver new school buildings for Thomas Tallis in Blackheath and Crown Woods in Eltham.

A spokeswoman for Balfour Beatty said: "The new Thomas Tallis School is expected to be completed in October 2011 while construction on Crown Woods is expected to be finished by April 2011. Preparatory work has already started and construction will start within the New Year holiday break."

It forms part of the government's Building Schools for the Future programme that includes 32 rebuilding and refurbishment schemes in the borough.

The complete Greenwich programme will rebuild or refurbish the Borough's current estate of 13 secondary schools in three waves as part of the Government's national BSF programme.
