200 people evacuated following Erith gas leak

Six fire engines are currently on scene

35 firefighters and officers are currently dealing with a gas leak from a high pressure main on Church Manorway in Erith.

The brigade was called to the scene at 9.41am today, and announced via its twitter account at around 2.20pm that the gas leak will last longer than expected.

Station manager Bruce Grain said:

“A 200 metre exclusion zone has been set up as a precaution and around 200 people have been evacuated from local businesses.”
