A win and defeat for Welling over festive period

PUBLISHED: 16:06 30 December 2013 | UPDATED: 16:06 30 December 2013

Welling United had a win and a defeat over the busy Christmas football period.

Both matches saw turnarounds. First up was a Boxing Day trip to Dartford.

Lee Burns gave the home side the lead at Princes Park but the Wings came roaring back in the second half.

Top scorer Ross Lafayette equalised when Jamie Day’s corner was deflected into his path by Kurtis Guthrie.

It was Guthrie who secured all three points 10 minutes from time, heading in Joe Healy’s cross. The return match was on New Year’s Day.

It was a different story when the Wings travelled to in-form Aldershot on Saturday. Lafayette put them in front just after the break.

The turning point came when Blaine Hudson was sent off for fouling Joe Oastler in the penalty area. Brett Williams scored the spot-kick and Aiden O’Brien’s late double secured three points for the Shots.

On Saturday, Welling are at home to Braintree.
