STUDENTS and dignitaries gathered for the 'groundbreaking' ceremony marking the start of construction on a new contemporary building.
Bexley council leader Teresa O'Neill joined officials from the Harris Federation and contractor Willmott Dixon last Monday for the start of work on the new Harris Academy, Falconwood, in Sylvan Road, Welling.
The building will include a sixth form and an 'agora' style area for exhibitions, assemblies and for use as a theatre space.
Councillor O'Neill said: "I am delighted to be here at the beginning of such an extremely exciting project.
"Willmott Dixon is a known and trusted partner and, along with the renowned Harris Federation, I know that we are going to create something very special here.
