Academy go-ahead for college

A SPECIALIST art college could be transformed into a city academy.

A SPECIALIST art college could be transformed into a city academy.

Bexley council has received the go-ahead from the government into a feasibility study for turning Westwood College, Welling, into an academy.

Academy sponsors Harris Federation has agreed to sponsor the school in The Green, Welling and the change over could happen as early as September.

A public meeting about the proposal is being held at the college on Tuesday, March 25 at 7.30pm.

The consultation deadline is April 4.

Education cabinet member Simon Windle said: "This is absolutely fantastic news for Bexley, if this proposal is accepted."

Bexley council are also investigating the possibility of launching a new academy in Crayford.
