72-year-old was attacked in the High Street

Police are appealing for witnesses to a vicious assault on an elderly man in Bexley.

The 72-year-old was attacked from behind, punched to the ground and kicked by a car driver after nearly being run over in the High Street.

The pensioner was crossing the street at about 7.30pm on Friday, May 29 after a car had stopped to let him cross. But suddenly another car tried to overtake and nearly ran him over.

After a brief exchange of words, the elderly man walked off, but was then attacked. He was treated at the scene by ambulance crews.

The suspect is black, in his early 20s and slim, with short black hair. He was clean shaven, spoke with a local accent and was wearing a grey suit. He was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa.
