A 13-YEAR-BOY has proved his mettle in the ring to reach a boxing final.

Archie Sharp, from Welling, made it through to the Royal Navy Schools Amateur Boxing Association (ABC) of England Finals that are due to take place tomorrow and this Saturday in Dagenham, East London.

He made it through to the finals after beating his opponent in the third round at a bout in Haslemere in Surrey on February 21.

He said: "The semi final went well - I've been training every day and knew it would be hard. I reckon I can win the final."

The win from the Welling school pupil, who is also a member of Eltham and District ABC, gives him the chance to box for the title in the 36kg category.

Captain of Naval Recruiting, Captain Chris Alcock said: "Tenacity and spirit, as shown by our nation's young boxers, are valued qualities both in and out of the ring - by joining forces with the ABA, we are really able to help showcase the future talent of Britain.
