Army chiefs looked the part as they took part in a special ceremony to raise the Armed Forces Day flag in Bexleyheath ahead of the big day on Saturday (June 30).

It was raised this morning by Sergeant Mick Jennings, who is currently serving in the Signals Regiment, and he was joined by a range of forces dignitaries.

They were joined by the area’s MPs - James Brokenshire for Old Bexley and Sidcup, David Evennett for Bexleyheath and Crayford and Teresa Pearce for Erith and Thamesmead.

Mr Brokenshire said: “Armed Forces Day provides us with a special opportunity for us to recognise the huge contribution they make - often serving thousands of miles away from home.

“It shows our support for their work in keeping us safe and secure from those currently serving abroad to the cadet force, reservists and volunteers.

“They put their lives on the line and this gives us the chance to say thank you.”

The day is designed to raise public awareness for the work the forces do and give people in Britain the opportunity to show their support for the troops.

This year’s national event takes place in Plymouth.
