A new Sunday bus route which has been fought for by residents and politicians alike will open for business on Sunday (April 28).

The B12 route, which runs from Bexley Park to Erith and goes through Joydens Wood, Cold Blow and Northumberland Heath, will run every half an hour in both directions on Sundays for the first time.

Both Joydens Wood and Cold Blow Residents Associations have campaigned tirelessly for the new route

Old Bexley and Sidcup MP James Brokenshire said: “This is great news for everyone who has campaigned for a number of years to introduce a Sunday bus service up to Joydens Wood. At the moment there is no public transport on a Sunday for this area.

“This will make life much easier for people who haven’t got a car to get around Bexley seven days a week.”

Transport for London announced the implementation of the new route last month after overwhelming support from a public consultation.

Dana Wiffen, of Cold Blow Residents Association, said: “We’ve been lobbying to try and get a Sunday service for this route for well over 2 years.

“One point made by us was that virtually every bus service in the borough has a Sunday service and this included other routes that crossed over into the Kent County Council/Dartford side.

“Our main aim now is to inform as many residents in St Mary’s and Joydens Wood that this route is now running and to get people used to it.”
