A Barnehurst woman is swapping one type of teaching for another.

Julie Bowen became a primary school teacher in 1986 but on Saturday of next week (September 8) she will be ordained as a deacon of the Church of England at Rochester Cathedral.

Julie, who taught at Crook Log and Pelham Road in Bexleyheath, will serve her time as a deacon at St John the Evangelist in Parkhill Road, Bexley.

She said: “I am so privileged to be called into work in the village and among the people and families of Bexley.

“I look forward to serving the community, building new relationships and to being a part of the family that is Bexley Village.”
