The Royal Mail is reorganising

A Royal Mail delivery office in Belvedere will close on Saturday (14).

The office, on Sheridan Road, will shut its doors at 2pm as part of the postal service’s modernisation programme.

From Monday (16) any undelivered items will have to be picked up from the office in Dartford, five miles away.

Royal Mail says there will be no compulsory redundancies and staff who are relocated will be given travel expenses for any extra costs.

A spokesman said: “We will continue to offer a consistent and high quality service to customers in Belvedere.

“We first announced that the Belvedere office would be relocating in November 2010, and further information will be sent to customers to make them aware of their options.”

Royal Mail will offer free re-delivery for customers at a convenient time or to an alternative address of the same postcode.

A spokesman for the Communication Workers Union said: “We are working closely with Royal Mail to ensure that the service to the community in Belvedere is maintained and that jobs are protected during the modernisation programme.

“This can have a big imapct on customers and staff.”

The Dartford office is open from 7am to 8pm on Wednesday’s, 7am to 2pm on Saturday’s and 7.30am to 7.30pm on every other week day.
