Bexley cop to go on trial for beating teenage suspect

A Bexley policeman will go on trial charged with beating a 14-year-old suspect in June.

Steven Rea, 39, denies two counts of assault by beating in relation to offences involving the teenage boy on October 13 last year after bringing him into custody.

He will go on trial at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 13.

A Directorate of Professional Standards investigation was launched after CCTV of the youngster being brought into custody was reviewed.

Rea, who is ranked as a sergeant, is currently suspended from duty.
