More than 100 children and young people in care attended a Bexley awards evening at the council chambers last week.

On Friday, 300 guests attended the Education Achievement Awards for Looked After Children, including councillors and teams of volunteers from local businesses.

The mayor of Bexley, Sybil Camsey presented the awards for:

Going above and beyond

Perseverance

The night also featured a performance from more than 20 young people featuring drumming, dancing and a rap song written by the performers, who had been rehearsing since August.

Leader of the London Borough of Bexley, Teresa O’Neill said: “This was a much deserved celebration of achievements for the borough’s looked after children and young people.

“I would like to thank all those who worked so hard and who freely gave up their time to provide a spectacular evening to be remembered - and also to say a big ‘well done’ to our award winners.”
