A budget consultation which will address a £10million funding gap was been rubber-stamped by Bexley Council’s cabinet on Tuesday.

Council leader Cllr Teresa O’Neill blames funding cuts from central government for the shortfall.

She said: “Our government funding has fallen by one third since 2010 and the number of vulnerable adults and young people who need care is increasing.

“One of the ways we will try to limit some of the extra costs that result from this, is by intervening at an earlier stage to avoid higher costs that can result if problems escalate.

“Avoiding big council tax increases remains one of our top priorities.”

A public consultation on the plans will start next week.

Information about the consultation will be published on the council’s website, together with an online survey. Paper copies will be available on request from libraries and council offices.
