A Bexley Council worker has described being awarded an MBE for services to children and families as “a fantastic honour”.

Lucie Heyes, head of professional standards and quality assurance for children’s services, has only worked for the council since August.

She said: “Receiving this is a fantastic honour, but the award is actually for all statutory children’s social workers and managers on the frontline, doing an incredibly demanding job, often in the face of great challenges.”

Ms Heyes is also a media spokesperson for The College of Social Work (TCSW) and last year became an elected member of its professional assembly.
