Bexley firefighters prepare for four-hour strike

Bexley firefighters are due to strike today (Wednesday) for four hours in a row over pensions.
Residents have been warned to take extra care between noon and 4pm as there will only be contingency cover provided by the London Fire Brigade.
The national strike is in response to changes the Fire Brigade Union says will mean firefighters will have to work longer, pay more into their pensions and receive less in retirement.
The union also argued the move will see firefighters having to work on frontline duties until they are 60.
But the government has maintained that the changes were fair and would still give firemen and women decent pensions when they retire.
The Brigade has said it will continue to attend serious incidents, but may not be able to respond to some calls, including reports of flooding and automatic fire alarms.
