Two Bexley guides took the trip of a lifetime to get to grips with life at sea

Lucy Haslam, 24, leader of the 2nd Barnehurst Guides and 18-year-old Charlotte Warrell, of the 4th Welling Methodist Rangers, sailed from Hartlepool in the north-east to Holland and then to Portsmouth on a yacht chartered by Girlguiding North East England.

Charlotte was inspired to take part in the challenge by her late grandfather, aged 95.

She said: “He sailed from a young age and told me about his experiences.”
