Bexley’s new mayor Cllr Sharon Massey is the first to take to social media to highlight her role.
She has set up a Twitter account and Facebook page to emphasise the local people she is meeting.
Cllr Massey said: “I am really loving my year as mayor and hope through my Facebook page to be able to share my engagements and activities with others.
“Also my chosen charities have played a big part in the life of my family and of many other people in the borough and I am keen to do everything I can to support and promote them.
“We are organising a wide range of fund-raising events and I want to tell as many people as possible about them in the hope that there is something they would like to support and come along to.”
“We have got off to a good start, but I hope many more people will follow me on Twitter and become a friend on Facebook so that this year can be a shared experienced.”
Cllr Massey launched her charity appeal last month with a fundraising event at the Holiday Inn. Her eldest daughter, Beth, helped create the Mayor’s Facebook page.
Her chosen charities are the Paediatric Diabetes Unit at Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup and Carers’ Support (Bexley).
