Bexley MP hits out at women bishop vote

PUBLISHED: 10:00 25 November 2012

Bexleyheath and Crayford MP David Evennett has slammed the Church of England Synod’s failure to pass legislation that would allow the ordination of female bishops.

The politician regularly attends St Paulinus Church in Perry Street, Crayford and voted in favour of legislation that allowed women to become priests in 1994 in parliament.

Mr Evennett said: “It is difficult to comprehend that this important change can be rejected in the 21st century.

“Ordained women make such a valuable contribution to the church already including at local churches. This result is a great disappointment and a disaster to the Church of England.”
