Neighbourhood Watch was set up by the police in 1982 and aimed to tackle household burglary.

Burglary is expected to rise this year in Bexley. There were 1,404 break-ins from April 2012 to the end of January this year, the latest figures available. This is compared with 1,407 burglaries from April 2011 to end of March 2012.

Bexley has one of the largest Neighbourhood Watch schemes in the UK – with more than 400 different watches.
