More than 100 pensioners got in the festive spirit at a Christmas party in Bexley civic offices.

There was a raffle with prizes donated from Asda in Bexleyheath including a Christmas pudding and chocolate cake.

There was also information available on the progress of the newly-formed NHS Bexley Clinical Commissioning Group which will take over local health services in April next year.

Bexley has one of the largest elderly populations in London and is more likely to be affected by long-term conditions like heart disease, diabetes and respiratory illnesses.

Chairman of the organisation Dr Howard Stoate said: “The new organisation is keen to engage with patients both in terms of education and getting a steer from what they see as local health priorities. “The elderly population is sizable in Bexley and associated long-term conditions are a major issue in terms of care and cost. We do need to get the stronger preventative message across, along with the fact that a few simple changes can make a big difference to people’s quality of life.”
