Aims to encourage use of contraception
National Sexual Health Week is this month, from September 15 -21 and this year the focus is on emergency contraception for women.
Emergency Hormone Contraception (EHC) can be used by women for up to 72 hours after they have had unprotected sex.
Bexley is currently expanding provision of sexual health services within pharmacies, making it easier for young people under 25 to access to EHC, as well as Chlamydia screening and condoms.
Pharmacies offering EHC in Bexley are Broadway Pharmacy and Crook Log Pharmacy in Bexleyheath, Brownes Pharmacy in Sidcup, Co-operative Pharmacy in Slade Green, Falconwood Pharmacy in Falconwood, Welling’s Hayshine Limited Pharmacy, Knightons Pharmacy and Lloyds Pharmacy in Belvedere, Lloyds Pharmacy in Sidcup and Ormany Chemist and Soka Blackmore Pharmacy both in Erith.
Other services offered by the Council’s public health team include the C-Card: a free, confidential condom scheme for young people under 25.
Once a young person has registered for a C-Card they will be able to access condoms from outlets in any of the 25 London boroughs participating in the scheme.
C-Card registration and condom distribution outlets can be found in Pharmacies, GP surgeries, youth centres, colleges and libraries.
