Police should wear camera on their body, says Bromley and Bexley London Assembly member James Cleverly.

Mr Cleverly said the move would cut paperwork and increase convictions.

“They reduce bureaucracy as officers can avoid writing long statements and simply refer to video footage,” he said.

“If we want to reduce paperwork and increase convictions we need to think creatively about ways to do this. Body worn cameras have demonstrated that they can achieve both of these aims.”

A pilot for headcams in neighbouring Bromley was trialled successfully in 2009 but was not rolled out because it was too expensive.
