More than 30 Bexley police volunteers have been honoured at a ceremony in Bexleyheath.

In all, 33 special constables and Met volunteers were given certificates in the civic offices last Friday.

Eight volunteers received long-service awards. The 51 active volunteers gave more than 8,600 hours in 2012.

Specials and volunteers manager Ann Mansfield said: “The contribution our volunteers and specials provide is amazing.”

Bexley’s 70 special constables – who volunteer on a regular basis – worked an average of 2,000 hours a month last year, making a total of 23,333 hours on duty.
