More than 150 members of the Bexley National Autistic Society enjoyed a trip to the zoo after being given more than £2,000 by a charity.

The group received £2,070 from Help a London Child and used approximately £500 from their own resources to make the trip to Colchester Zoo.

It enabled Bexley NAS to take 42 families who have a child on the autistic spectrum on the trip on August 25.

A spokesman for the society said: “It was a truly amazing day and feedback from parents and children was very enthusiastic regarding both the quality of the zoo and the opportunity to visit with a supportive group. Many would not have attempted the visit on their own and wished the day could have been longer.”
