Labour group says capital programme decision may not be legal as meeting had finished

LABOUR councillors have branded Bexley council’s financial plans for 2015/15 a ‘shambolic mess’ and questioned whether they are even legal.

Councillors met last week (March 5) to agree the council’s budget as well as consider a report on financial plans for the year ahead and agree the level of council tax for 2014/15.

Labour group leader Alan Deadman has condemned the Tories for rushing through a vote on the capital programme and their treasury management strategy after the Mayor had informed all council members that Thursday’s meeting had finished due to time for the meeting running out.

Cllr Deadman says his party is seeking legal advice on whether this part of the budget is even legal after the Mayor allowed a vote to take place after the 11pm deadline.
