X Factor winner Sam Bailey’s dream-like festive season continued yesterday with her first Christmas number one.
Her debut single, Skyscraper, went straight in to the top spot after being released on Wednesday - just days after receiving more than one million votes to claim the ITV talent show title.
The mother-of-two beat the likes of AC/DC, Pharrell Williams and fellow X Factor star Leona Lewis to reach number one, describing the moment as “absolutely amazing” on BBC Radio 1.
Proceeds from her single will go to two charities, Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity, and Together For Short Lives.
Formerly of Bexley Village, Sam sold around 149,000 copies of her single in just five days - a figure dwarfed by last year’s winner James Arthur.
His debut single Impossible sold around 490,000 copies - but failed to hit the top spot for Christmas, claiming number one the week after.
This year’s top five is as follows:
Sam Bailey - Skyscraper
Pharrell Williams - Happy
Leona Lewis - One More Sleep
AC/DC - Highway To Hell
Avicii - Hey Brother
