Bexley’s Sam Bailey cruised through the latest round of the X Factor with a superb rendition of Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On - despite saying she would never sing the song again.

Saturday’s theme was movie week and the 36-year-old opted for the song from Titanic’s soundtrack, receiving rave reviews from all four judges.

A video before the performance showed the mother-of-two explaining how she sang it on a cruise ship during a terrible storm 15 years ago, bringing back terrible memories.

But Take That’s Gary Barlow said: “It’s this simple Sam. You sang the song better than Celine Dion.”

Sam’s mentor Nicole Scherzinger compared her protegee to the Canadian legend while Louis Walsh said the performance was “note perfect.”

The prison guard, who grew up in Bexley, is one of the bookies favourites to be the overall winner - only teenagers Tamera Foster and Nicholas McDonald have shorter odds.

After her sparkling performance, she told the ITV show’s host Dermot O’Leary: “I hope I’ve done enough to get through.”

She tweeted: “Thanks everyone for their support. I’m so grateful.”

Girl group Miss Dynamix were booted out following the sing-off on last night.
