A borough school has been recognised for its academic excellence and congratulated by Education Secretary Michael Gove.

Beths Grammar School, Hartford Road, Bexley scooped the London Evening Standard Academic Excellence Award last Thursday.

And the Education Secretary was on hand to spend time talking to successful pupils.

Headteacher Jim Skinner said: “We were delighted to be picked out from all the secondary schools in London.

“The award recognised our academic achievements to August 2013 which included some fantastic exam results.

“Of 160 boys in our Year 11, 55 achieved 10 A* and A grades and many of our GCSE pupils take their exams early.

“In fact we had three boys taking three A/S level exams early this year and all of them got three A grades.”
