More than 60 scouts and guides from Bexley have been recognised in the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards.
Nominees were put forward by their leaders and peers for a variety of achievements, and were given a certificate and £200 each. A ceremony took place in Bromley last Sunday to give the Jack Petchey Foundation, which gives grants to young people aged 11 to 25, the chance to show its appreciation.
One recipient was 16-year-old Nicola Umney, a member of the Bexleyheath guides unit.
Her nomination read: “Nicola is an inspirational young woman. She was in care until the age of three and after an unsettled start in life she has developed into a well-balanced and generous young women.
“Nicola is assisting at a struggling Brownie Unit which she attends weekly and is a popular member of the team with the leaders and, more importantly, the girls.”
