Olympic star Zoe Smith is one of two athletes who train at the Europa Centre, Crayford, who headed to the Australian Youth Olympics, which start on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old will be joined by 12-year-old gymnast Catherine Lyons, who at 12 will be the youngest member of the squad.

Yvonne Arnold OBE, co-owner of Europa Centre, said: “It’s great news for the centre and we all wish Zoe and Catherine, along with all the members of Team GB, a successful trip.”

Zoe broke the British clean and jerk record in the Olympics while Catherine will be looking to use this valuable experience to push towards the next Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Catherine’s coach Rochelle Douglas added: “This is a great start to the year and a tremendous opportunity for Catherine. It is not an easy trip flying half way around the World to compete against older and more experienced gymnasts.”
