Bexley station fire causes travel delays from London Bridge to Dartford

A fire at Bexley station this evening is causing delays of up to 10 minutes on trains between Hither Green and Dartford via Sidcup.

Services were earlier suspended, with some trains diverted to Bexleyheath, but the station was re-opened at around 5.30pm.

The fire is thought to have been caused by a gas cylinder, with nine members of staff evacuated by firefighters who set up a safety cordon.

Two fire engines attended the scene at around 3.10pm, after receiving calls reporting a fence on fire at the station.

There were disruptions on Southeastern services between London Bridge and Dartford, as well as London Bridge and Crayford.

Commuters took to Twitter to unleash their frustration this afternoon, with @MrWhitby_ commenting: “Wow, the one day my dads In the UK I can’t get to London to see him because of a fire in bexley... Superb!”

@Bluey2009 said: “It’s only Monday and already the first fire of the week just in time for the journey home.”

It is thought delays will continue to effect travel until around 6pm.
